Vector Model

Represents geographic features as points, lines, and polygons, allowing for precise data representation and analysis.

Raster Model

Composed of a grid of cells or pixels, each representing a value, commonly used for continuous data such as elevation or temperature.

Attribute Table

A linked data structure holding information such as names, categories, or measurements associated with each geographic feature.

Pixel

The basic unit of a raster data model that represents a value corresponding to a specific location.

Nominal Data

represent different kinds or categories of data (names, no rank – land cover, etc.)

Ordinal Data

represent ranked data (ordered – income data)

Interval Data

numerical data without an absolute zero value (have known intervals between values – Time of day, calendar years, pH, temperature in Fahrenheit)

Node

A point on a graph representing a specific location in a spatial context.

Vertex

The line connecting two nodes providing directionality in spatial relationships.

Polygon

A two-dimensional object formed when an arc connects back to its starting node, encompassing an area.

Spatial Resolution

Refers to the size of each pixel in raster data; smaller pixels yield higher spatial resolution.

Continuous Data

Data represented using a raster model that can take any value within a range, such as temperature or elevation.
