Aorta Prep

• Fast 6-8hrs prior (prevents faecal loading)

• Curved Array Transducer (C5-1)

• Supine + Breath in

• 2 Transverse + 2 Longitudinal

• Calf Compressions maybe

• From Transverse Colon → Iliacs

Aorta Indications

• Abdo Pain/Bruit (swoosh noise heard on stethescope)

• F/U EVAR (Endovascular Aneurysm Repair)

• AAA (Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm)

• Haemodynamically compressed lower limb (something external that is preventing Blood Flow)

IVC Prep + Indications

• Supine + Breath in

• Curved Array Transducer (C5-1)

• HVOO (Hepatic Venous Outflow Obstruction/Bud Chiari Syndrom)

Liver Prep

• Fast 6-8hrs

• Curved Transducer (C6-1)

• Supine for Left lobe + LPO for Right Lobe

• Right: 2 Long + 1 Trans

• Left: 2 Each (Total 7)

Liver Indications

• Jaundice → Linked with Liver Disease

• Increased Billirubin (BR/TBil/T.Billi)

• TIPS (Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt)

• CEUS (Contrast Enhanced US)

• HCC (Hepatocellular Carcinoma)

Spleen Prep

• Fast 6-8hrs prior

• Curved Array (C6-1)

• RPO w/ Breath holds

• Intercostal view

• 2 Long, 1 Trans

Spleen Indications

• WCC (White Cell Count)

• 2° Deposits (Secondary Deposit)

• LUQ Pain

Kidney/Renal Prep

• Drink 1L water 1hr prior (Fills bladder to improve acoustic window)

• Curved Array (C-1)

• Left: RPO | Right: LPO

• 2 Long, 3 Trans (each side)

Kidney Indications

• sCr = Creatinine

• Flank Pain (behind as Kidneys sit post.)

Porta Hepatis Prep

• LPO position

• 3 Long Images

• Curved Array Transducer

GB Prep

• Pt Fasted 6-8hrs prior

• Curved Array

• LPO + Breath in

• 2 Long, 3 Trans

GB Indications

• RUQ Pain

• Murpheys Sign (+ive) [physical exam to assess Gallstones]

• Collins Sign (Rt Scap Tip Pain)

• Jaundice

Pancreas

• Fast 6-8hrs Prior

• Pt Supine

• Trans + Long

Pancreas Indications

• ETOH (Excessive Alcohol)

• Epigastric Pain

• Increase Panc enzymes (to tell if there is inflammation/cause of it)
