ATP
Adenosine triphosphate; the energy currency of the cell that powers most cellular activities.
Mitochondria
Organelle that produces ATP to supply energy for cell activities.
Glucose
A simple sugar released from food that serves as a key energy source for cells.
Kinetic energy
Energy of motion; in braking, kinetic energy is converted into heat.
Heat
Thermal energy produced when energy is dissipated, such as from braking.
Intermediary molecule
An intermediate molecule in a metabolic pathway that links initial substrates to final energy output.
Bacterial toxin
A toxin released by bacteria that can harm the host.
