What is diffusion
the net movement of particles from a high concentration to a low concentration
where can diffusion take place
gas and liquids
what is diffusion in cells?
the movement of very small particles into and out of cells
what process is diffusion what does this mean?
passive does not require energy
What factors effect diffusion
temperature - heated molecules have more kinetic energy to diffuse quicker
surface area - higher surface area the higher rate of diffusion as there is more surface for molecules to pass
difference in concentration - steeper concentration gradient means quicker diffusion
what is the experiment to investigate diffusion explain the results
Fill a glass with water.
Add sugar to the surface without stirring.
Observe sugar dissolving and spreading through the water and add food coloring to visualize diffusion.
Results:
Sugar moves from high concentration to low, spreading throughout the water.
