Michelson’s Experiment
Light could be observed in the telescope if the rotating mirrors completed 1/8 of a rotation between the time left and then returned.

Galileo Galilei (1564-1642)
One of the first recorded attempts to measure the speed of light
Olaus Rømer (1644 – 1710)
Christiaan Huygens (1629 - 1695)
Rømer and Huygens observed variations in the timing of eclipses of one of the moons of Jupiter.
They reasoned that the 22 minute discrepancy was the time that it took light to travel the distance of Earth’s orbital diameter (3.0 × 1011 m).
