Music that maintains the audio resolution when recorded. Today, most music is recorded at 96 kHz. Production audio is typically recorded at 48 kHz. In both formats, 24-bit is standard. A stereo recording at 44:1116 bit will produce a file size of 10 megs per minute. That same file compressed in mp3 will be less than 1 meg. Therefore, size is a good determinant of the amount of compression that a file has undergone. When editing and mixing, we get much better results when using full-resolution audio as the starting point.
