after representatives from 7 colonies met in Albany, Ben Franklin created this plan for common defense; however, it never went into effect because the colonies were preoccupied with their own taxes

Peace of Paris (1763)

the war-ending treaty that gave England French Canada and Spanish Florida; Spain got French Louisiana

salutary neglect

to control the new territories, the British became more strict with their laws, practically eliminating salutary neglect

Pontiac's Rebellion

Pontiac led one due to European westward expansion and lack of British gifts

Proclamation of 1763

a law from the British government that barred colonists from living west of the Appalachian mountains; thousands of infuriated colonists streamed past the imaginary border
