MLA
A citation style based around a series of 'containers' for organizing source information.
Containers
The elements used in MLA citations that include author, title of source, and publication details.
Author
The name of the individual who created the work; formatted as Last Name, First Name.
Title of Source
The name of the work such as a book or article; italicized for books and in quotation marks for articles.
Title of Container
The larger work that the source is part of, such as a journal or anthology; always italicized.
Other Contributors
Individuals such as editors or translators; include their roles when citing.
Version
Indicates the edition of the work, such as vol. # for journal articles.
Number
The issue number for journal articles; formatted as no. #.
Publisher
The name of the company that published the book; not required for journal articles.
Publication Date
The date when the source was published; can refer to books or journal articles.
Location
Specific page numbers or links to where the source can be found; includes search engine or database information.
Corpus
A collection of written texts on a particular subject or the works of a specific author.
