Computer Graphics
Visual presentations displayed on a physical surface created by human imagination using tools.
Raster Graphics
Uses pixels to define the structure of a digital image.
Vector Graphics
Uses mathematically constructed paths to define a graphic's visual structure.
Pixel
The smallest definable element of a raster image, representing a tiny square of color.
Pixel Density
Expressed as PPI (pixels per linear inch), indicating how closely packed pixels are.
Native Resolution
The fixed number of pixels that a TV or computer monitor has.
Aspect Ratio
The proportional relationship of the width to the height of the screen, depicted as x:y.
RGB Color Mode
A color mixing mode that produces colors by light, using red, green, and blue as primary colors.
CMYK Color Mode
A color mixing mode that produces colors by pigment, using cyan, magenta, yellow, and black as primary colors.
Desktop Publishing (DTP)
The process of publishing by designing text and graphics layout using desktop publishing software.
Typesetter
A process or software that creates and edits complex text and graphical objects of high quality.
Layering
The arrangement of objects on top of each other, with the order determining which object is on top.
Margins in DTP
The blank space surrounding a page.
Gutter in DTP
The space between columns of text in a publication.
Kerning
The adjustment of space between individual letters in typography.
Leading in DTP
The vertical space between lines of text.
Proofing in DTP
The process of reviewing a draft version of a publication for errors.
