Narrator/Speaker
relate accounts to readers and establish a relationship between the text and the reader; not necessarily the author
perspective
refers to how narrators, characters, or speakers see their circumstances,
point of view
the position from which a narrator or speaker relates the events of a narrative.
1st person
involved in the narrative; their relationship to the events of the plot and the other characters shape their perspective
3rd person
an outside observer with knowledge of events/characters ranging from observational to omniscient; the level of knowledge shapes the narrator's perspective
narrative distance
refers to the physical distance, chronological distance, relationships, or emotional investment of the narrator to the events or characters of the narrative.
reliability
determined by how little or how much bias a narrator has
bias
prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair.
tone
The attitude of narrators, characters, or speakers toward an idea, character, or situation emerges from their perspective
diction
the choice and use of words and phrases in speech or writing.
Syntax
The arrangement of words, phrases, and clauses which help to emphasize details or ideas, conveying a narrator's/speaker's tone
