What supplies are needed? (4 items)

1. Food tray (utensils, food, drink)

2. Clothing protector

3. Hand wipes/washcloth

4. Chair

What should you do before feeding the resident?

• Verify that the diet card matches the resident

• Check for allergies

• Bring patient to high fowler’s position

• Sit facing resident at eye level

How do you assist with foods and fluids?

• Offer foods in small amounts

• Alt between food and fluid

• Give time to chew and swallow

What should you do after feeding the resident?

• Keep them in upright position

• Remove clothing protector

• Clean hands and mouth

• Record % of food/fluid consumed
