Indentured Servitude/Headright system

A labor system where Americans severed a certain amount of years for travel to America

Mayflower Compact

Is the first American constitution, and agreement to submit to majority rule. Males met regularly to make laws.

Halfway Covenant

The puritans moving towards economic and not ideal society. Puritans clergy proposed a half-way church membership.

Albany Congress

Benjamin Franklin proposed the Albany plan to discuss defensive measures against the French

“city upon a hill”

Winthrop’s sermon calling on Puritans to build a model society, AKA the Massachusetts Bay Colony

Great Awakening

A series of protestant religious revivals in the American Colonies, leading to several colleges being found and established churches

Colonists & Native Americans conflicts

Americans continuously stole land from Native Americans, and inflicted diseases upon their tribes leading to the extinction of many

Bacon’s Rebellion

Nathanial Bacon led thousands of Virginians in rebellion, plantation owners moved away form indentured servants and used Africans as a source of cheap labor

WIlliam Penn & Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania was founded by William Penn for Quakers. They created a liberal colony with representative senators. Freedom of religion with no state supported church
