Mobilization

• is the process of assembling troops and supplies and making them ready for war

Conscription

A military draft that mandates the enlistment of people in a national service, typically the armed forces.

Trench Warfare

• A form of warfare in which opposing armies fight each other from trenches dug in the battlefield.

Attrition

tactic based on wearing the other side down by constant attacks and heavy losses

Armistice

• On the 11^th hour, the 11^th day of the 11^th month of 1918.  An armistice was signed to stop the war.

  • Was celebrated in the U.S. as Armistice Day, now called Veterans Day.

Total War

• War in which the participating countries devote all their resources to the war effort

Reparation

• payments made by Germany to the Allies 

Propaganda

• Spread of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, cause, or person

Planned Economy

• centralized government controls all or most factors of production & makes all production decisions
