Sources of error

Mistakes or things that could mess up your experiment results.

Qualitative

Relates to qualities described with words, e.g. 'The flame turned green.'

Quantitative

Relates to quantities represented by numbers, e.g. 'The flame temperature was 1,200°C.'

Selective precipitation

An analytical technique where a chemical is added to form a solid from one specific substance while others remain dissolved.

Solubility and temperature relationship

Solids generally dissolve better in hotter water, while gases dissolve better in colder water.

Flame tests

An analytical technique where different elements produce different colors in a flame to identify metals.

Solubility rules

Shortcut rules to predict if a solid will dissolve in water or form a precipitate.
