Refresher Training
Essential to keeping your skills sharp and to keep informed on pilot information
Mountain Flying
Challenging and requires proficiency in all your piloting skills
Aerobatic Flight Training
Aileron Roll, snap roll, barrel roll, Cuban eight, loop, Immelmann turn are all maneuvers for this type of training. Increases proficiency as a pilot.
Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA)
Nonprofit organization dedicated to general aviation. Provide a wide variety of benefits such as pilot information, legal services, loan programs, and pilot/aircraft insurance.
Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA)
Founded in 1953 to assist in homebuilt aircraft and others such as vintage aircraft, warbirds, and aerobatics.
The Ninety-Nine, Inc.
International organization of women pilots with members from over 40 countries. Provides fellowship through flight, networking and scholarships for women, and sponsor aviation education.
Civil Air Patrol (CAP)

Aircraft Checkout
the transition training to safely pilot an unfamiliar airplane
High-Performance Airplane
Airplane - Aircraft with an engine with more than 200 horsepower.
Complex Airplane
Aircraft with retractable landing gear, flaps, and a controllable-pitch propeller. Airplanes equipped with a full authority digital engine control (FADEC) are considered to have a controllable propeller.
Tailwheel Airplane
To act as a PIC of a tricycle gear aircraft, a logbook endorsement from a certified FI must state competency in normal/crosswind take off and landings, wheel landings (unless manufacturer recommends against them), and go around procedures.
Homebuilt aircraft
experimental. With documentation on Construction Process, aircraft inspections, and specific test flights FAA certification is possible.
Instrument Rating
An option that allows you to fly in a wider range of weather conditions, and increases your skill at precisely controlling the aircraft.
Instrument rating requirements
Have at least 40 hours of instrument flight time. Train with view limiting devices. Must pass a knowledge test and practical test. May be conducted in simulator or ATDs.
Multi-Engine Rating
No specific ground or flight instruction hours, but will need to pass a practical test.
Single or Multi Engine Sea Rating
No minimum hours required, but must pass a practical test.
Helicopter
A type of aircraft deriving both lift and propulsion from one or two sets of horizontally revolving rotors.
Rotocraft - Gyroplane Rating
Must pass a practical test after 20 hours dual instruction and 10 hours of solo.
Rotocraft - Helicopter Rating
40 hours of flight time with 20 hours dual and 10 hours solo minimum.
Glider Rating
requires 40 hours of Airplane flight time, 3 hours of flight training in a Glider and 10 solo flights
Lighter-Than-Air - Balloon Rating
requires a total of 10 hours of flight training that includes 6 training flights. There is Practical Test, but NO knowledge test.
Commercial Pilot Certificate
required for career pilot, or fee for service work. Substantial flight time logged of 190 to 250 hours depending on school type. Must have 10 hours minimum in Complex Airplane.
Certified Flight Instructor
-Allows you to instruct students in airplane or on the ground.
-Commercial Pilot's License & Instrument Rating required
-Valid for 24 calendar months.
- Must pass two knowledge exams and one practical test
Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (ATP)
- required for flying passengers or cargo
- must be 23 years old
- 1,500 hours flight time including:
A. 250 hours PIC time
B. 500 hours cross country time
C. 100 hours night flight
D. 75 hours instrument experience
Sport Pilot Certificate
Restricted to light single engine land aircraft and only fly during daylight hours. May not carry more than one passenger or operate in airspace requiring ATC communication.
Regional Airline
Flying advanced turboprop or small jet aircraft during scheduled passenger carrying flights.
Major Airline
- ATP Certificate
- Multi-Engine Rating
- First-Class medical
- Flight engineer knowledge test
- Four year college degree
Corporate Flying
involves all types of airplanes, and requires commercial with instrument and multi engine rating. An ATP certificate and type rating in jet or turboprop are generally preferred.
Aerial Application
requires knowledge of Chemistry along with Commercial Certificate and agricultural aircraft operations training.
The PIC is required to hold a type rating in which aircraft?
Aircraft having a gross weight of more than 12,500 pounds.
Before a person with a private pilot certificate may act as PIC of a high performance aircraft, the person must have
Recieved ground and flight instruction from an authorized instructor who then endorses that persons logbook
