Tension force
A force applied equally to opposite sides of a flexible medium (e.g. string, rope, cable, wire). (Ft)
Static friction force
Results when the surfaces of two objects are at rest relative to one another and a force exists on one of the objects to set it into motion relative to the other object (Fs)
Kinetic friction force
When two surfaces slide past each other or attempts to slide past each other, imposing a force against the moving object. (Fk)
Gravitational force
Gravitational force is the weight of an object. On Earth, all objects experience the force of gravity which is directed towards the center of the earth. (Fg)
Normal force
The pushing force that a surface exerts on an object to stop it from going through the surface. Always perpendicular. (Fn)
Applied force
A force that is applied to an object by a person or another object. (Fa)
