What is negative feedback?
When the body responds to an increase or decrease in a factor by returning it back to its original level.
What hormone regulates metabolic rate and growth?
Thyroxine.
Where is thyroxine released from?
The thyroid gland.
What stimulates the release of thyroxine?
Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH).
How is thyroxine controlled by negative feedback?
When thyroxine levels increase, receptors in the brain detect it, which inhibits TSH release, reducing thyroxine levels.
What is the role of adrenaline?
Adrenaline prepares the body for 'fight or flight' in times of stress.
Where is adrenaline released from?
From the adrenal glands, located on top of the kidneys.
What stimulates adrenaline release?
Fear or stress detected in the brain.
List five effects of adrenaline.
Increased heart and breathing rate, conversion of glycogen to glucose in the liver, pupils dilate to let in light, blood flow to muscles increases, blood flow to digestive system decreases.
