What is a sample?
A representative subset of the population
What is population?
The entire set of participants of interest
What is generalizability?
The ability to infer population characteristics based on the sample (external validity)
What are the two general types of sampling?
Probability sampling & non-probability sampling
What is probability sampling?
The likelihood of any member of the population being selected is known
What is non probability sampling?
the likelihood of any member of the population being selected is unknown or not equal
What is systemic sampling?
When participants are placed in sequence (not in a set order) and are randomly selected using population divided by sample size (N/n) and this number is used as a guide to select participants
What is stratified random sampling?
When population is broken down according to variables of interest and each level represents a portion of the sample
