Economic problems: food shortages, distribution problems unresolved
Treaty of Brest-Litovsk - Anger over harsh terms
Left-wing: Lenin was unwilling to listen or compromise e.g., shutting down the CA
Bolshevik ideology alienated/didn't appeal some groups - e.g., right wing
Questioned the legitimacy of the Oct. Revolution - used force, didn't legally take it over.

Causes for the Civil War? (1)

Allied intervention - Britain, America + France, angry that Russia had dropped out of the First World War, attacked the Bolsheviks.
National Minorities e.g., Georgia - lack of clarity of self-determination/independence/had not been carried out
Right-wing: yearned for the old tsarist regime e.g., army officers, landowners, businessman.
