Measurement
A number with a unit attached, often represented in metric system units such as centimeters, grams, and milliliters.
Mass
The amount of matter in an object, measured with a balance and not affected by gravity.
Volume
The amount of space occupied by a solid, liquid, or gas, typically measured in liters.
Liter (L)
The basic unit of volume in the metric system, defined as the volume of a cube with 1 dm on each side.
Density
The mass of an object divided by its volume, a measure of concentration.
Significant Digits
Numbers in a measurement that express the uncertainty associated with that measurement.
Unit Factor
A ratio of two equivalent quantities used to convert one unit to another.
Scientific Notation
A way to express very large or very small numbers in the form D.DD x 10^n, where D.DD contains significant figures.
Percent (%)
A ratio that expresses a quantity in relation to 100 parts; a way to compare parts to a whole.
Metric Prefixes
Symbols that modify base units; for example, kilo- indicates a factor of 1000.
