Persuasive Writing
The primary goal for this type of writing is to convince the reader to agree with the writer’s opinion or take action. It often relies on emotional appeals alongside logical reasoning
Argumentative Writing
The goal for this type of writing is to present a balanced argument, providing evidence for both sides of an issue before taking a clear stance. It emphasizes logical reasoning over emotions.
Assertion
A term generally used to refer to statements of fact, opinion, belief and prejudice.
Fact
A verifiable statement. It can be proven objectively by verified observations or the results of research.
Opinion
A personal judgement based on facts; hence it is debatable and potentially changable.
Belief
A conviction based on cultural or personal faith, morality or values.
Commonplace Assertion
A stereotype, an oversimplification, or a prejudice, which is a half-baked opinion (everyone says it), based on insufficient or unexamined evidence, but it presented as if it were a fact.
Statement
Any sentence that says something. Can be true, false, or just give info.
Claim
It is an opinion or idea that needs proof or reasons to support it.
