Dominant Trait
A trait that is expressed in the phenotype even when only one allele is present.
Recessive Trait
A trait that is only expressed in the phenotype when two alleles are present.
Codominance
A form of inheritance in which both alleles contribute equally and are expressed in the phenotype.
Sex-linked Traits
Traits that are carried on the X chromosome, which can affect inheritance patterns.
Autosomes
The 22 pairs of chromosomes that determine traits not related to sex.
Genotype
The genetic makeup of an individual, represented by the alleles inherited.
Phenotype
The observable characteristics or traits of an organism, resulting from the genotype.
Gregor Mendel
The scientist known as the father of genetics, who studied inheritance in pea plants.
X chromosome
The sex chromosome that is one of the two chromosomes determining a female's sex.
Y chromosome
The sex chromosome that is one of the two chromosomes determining a male's sex.
Body Dysmorphic Disorder
A mental health disorder where a person is excessively concerned about perceived flaws in their appearance.
