Control
the management function that involves monitoring activities to ensure that they're being accomplished as planned and correcting any significant deviations
An effective control system ensures
that the ways in which activities are completed attains the organization's goals
Steps in the control process
measuring actual performance, 2. comparing actual performance against a standard, and 3. taking managerial action to correct deviations or to address inadequate standards
Why is control important

An advantage of feedback control is
managers can see how on target their planning efforts were
Two contemporary issues in control today

What type of supervision may be required in countries that are less technologically advanced
direct supervision
What should happen to a standard if a variance results from an unrealistic standard
the standard should be revised
A basic corrective action
looks at how and why performance deviated before correcting the source of deviation
Statistical report
a performance measurement that would likely include graphs, tables and computer outputs
