Meristematic Tissue

Tissues which are capable of division.

Meristematic Tissue Characteristics

Cells of this tissue are alive and immature or young, and continuously divide to become mature.

Meristematic Cell Features

Thin (made of cellulose), large nucleus at the center, small or absent cell vacuole, dense cytoplasm

Tissue System

Plant tissue organization.

Permanent Tissue

Tissues which are not capable of cell division; cells can be living or dead.

Characteristics of Permanent Tissue Cells

Less cytoplasm, large cell vacuole, smaller nucleus to the side; thick cell wall; dead cells lack protoplasm.

Meristematic Tissue Transformation

When a meristematic tissue loses its capability of cell division, then it becomes permanent

Example of Meristematic Tissue Transformation

Meristematic tissue known as cambium can lose its ability and become permanent tissues like xylem & pholem.
