Aristotle System of Classification
A system of classification based on obvious and visible physical features.
Aristotle's Classification
Classified things as either plants (which were green and did not move) or animals (which did move). Further classified animals by where they lived (land, sea, and air).
Taxonomy
The branch of biology that classifies organisms and assigns each organism a universally accepted name.
Linnaeus System of Classification
A classification system based on physical similarities.
Binomial Nomenclature
The system of assigning a scientific name that consists of two parts.
Kingdom
The broadest classification group used to classify organisms.
Phylogeny
The evolutionary history of an organism.
Phylogenetic Tree
A family tree that shows the evolutionary relationships thought to exist among different groups of organisms
Morphology
The physical characteristics and structures of an organism.
