What is the presentation of tinea capitis

  • mild scaling and broken off hair to mainly inflammatory pathces with nodules that rain pus -> resulting in alopecia if severe

  • Infection can be exothrix (outside hair follicle) or endothrix (inside hair follicle)

  • An "id reaction" seen as papulopustular exanthema on the trunk can happen due to host immune response to fungus

  • Sharply demarcated lesions with annular papules with or without pustules/ vesicles
