What is oogenesis?

flat follicular (granulosa) cells form around primary oocyte. this is called a primordial follicle
what is a primary follicle?
cuboidal granulosa cells, zona pellucida
what is a secondary follicle?
more granulosa cells, antrum
what is a terciary (graafian) follicle?
full antrum, theca interna, theca externa, corona radiata
what is the theca interna made of?
capillaries
what is the theca externa made of?
fiber
what is the corona radiata?
layer of granulosa cells directly around oocyte
what occurs during maturation?
primary oocyte goes through meiosis 1 and turns into a polar body and a secondary oocyte. Then it goes through meiosis 2 and turns into a polar body and a fertilized egg
