Schedules of Reinforcement
Rules that determine when reinforcement becomes available.
Continuous Reinforcement
A schedule where reinforcement occurs every time a behavior is performed.
Partial Reinforcement
A schedule where reinforcement occurs after an intermittent number of behaviors or after an intermittent amount of time.
Fixed Ratio Schedule
A schedule where reinforcement is delivered after a predictable number of behaviors are performed.
Fixed Interval Schedule
A schedule where reinforcement is delivered after a predictable amount of time has passed.
Scalloped Pattern of Responding
A pattern of behavior characterized by steep increases in responses right before reinforcement becomes available.
Ratio Schedules
Schedules that involve the number of behaviors required to gain reinforcement.
Interval Schedules
Schedules that refer to the amount of time that needs to pass before reinforcement is available.
Variable Schedules
Schedules that are less predictable and vary in the number of behaviors or time interval before reinforcement.
Real World Example of Fixed Ratio Schedule
Loyalty cards where rewards are granted after a certain number of purchases.
