Absolute Monarchy

A monarch wields power over a state, and in which all other institutions of governments are marginal

• Ex: Middle Eastern dynasties

• Political parties are banned

• Different parts of the family controls diff. key institutions of the state and barrier to radical change

Presidential Monarchy

Authoritarian leaders that assume the job as presidents and disregard re-elections, make it into a life-tim appointment

• May create a political family dynasty

• Personalism: Personalities matter more than institions

• Has a cult of personality: dominates the consciousness of the people

• Poor governance = decision don’t have deliberation

Ruling Party

A government that dominance of a single ruling party, monopolizing public authority in the name of: economic modernization, social transformation, or national revival

• Ex: National Democratic Party of Egypt

Military Rule

Got their power from a military groups the deemed the previous government has unfit for the country for the time being

• Coup d’etat: Illegal sezuire of power
