Dendrites
Branchlike parts of a neuron that are specialised to receive information from other neurons
Nucleus
A part of the cell containing DNA and RNA and responsible for growth and reproduction
Cell body
Contains genetic information, maintains the neuron's structure, and provides energy to drive activities
Axon
Conducts electrical impulses away from neurons cell's body and transmit to other neurons
Myelin sheath
Allows electrical impulses to transmit quickly and efficiently along the nerve cells
Node of Ranvier
Periodic gap in the insulating sheath (myelin) on the axon of certain neurons that serves to facilitate the rapid conduction of nerve impulses
Axon terminal
The end portion of a neuron's axon which serves to transmit signals to other neurons or target cells, such as muscle cells or gland cells
Synapse
The places where neurons connect and communicate with each other
