Arginine Vasopressin Receptor Antagonists

Vasopressors
Work by stimulating alpha & beta receptors
Alpha-1: peripheral vasoconstriction = increases systemic vascular resistance = increases blood pressure
Beta-1/2: increase heart rate and cardiac output
Dopamine
Dose-dependent
low dose: 1-4mcg/kg/min = renal dose = dopamine agonist
medium dose: 5-10 mcg/kg/min = beta 1 agonist
high dose": 10-20 mcg/kg/min = alpha 1 agonist
Epinephrine
Alpha 1, Beta 1, Beta 2 agonists
Norepinephrine
Alpha 1 mostly, but still has Beta 1 activity
Phenylephrine
Alpha 1 agonist only
Vasopressin
Arginine vasopressin agonist & antidiuretic hormone
Nitroglycerin
Low doses: venous vasodilator
High doses: arterial vasodilator
Nitroprusside
Mixed arterial and venous vasodilator
