What are Scalar quantities
They have Magnitude only they don’t have direction
Give examples of Scalar quantity
Mass,Temperature,Speed,Energy,Distance,Time
What is a Vector quantities
Vector quantities have both magnitude and direction
What are the examples of Vector quantity
Displacement,Weight,Force,Velocity,Acceleration,Momentum
How can we represent vectors
Vector quantities can be represented with arrows
What does the length of an arrow represent
Magnitude
What is a force?
A force is a push or pull that acts on an object due to the interaction with another object
All forces between objects are either:
Contact forces:The objects are physically touching
Non-Contact forces-The objects are physically separated
How is there contact forces when a plane is landing on water?
When a plane is landing the force of friction is acting between the water and the aeroplane and this causes plane to slow down and stop
How is there a contact force with tension?
When you pull a rope the force of tension is pulling on the soldier
How is there contact forces in a skydiver?
As the skydiver falls through the air, air particles collide with the parachute and this causes the force of air resistance to act upwards
How does contact forces act on a object on the table?
When a lamp is on a table the lamp exerts a force downwards and that force is the weight of lamp. At the same time the table is exerting a force upwards which is called a normal contact force
What is a non-contact force
Two objects that physically separated
How is a gravitational force a non-contact force?
Attracts all objects to other objects
How is a electrostatic force a non-contact force
Is the force between two charged objects
How is magnetic force a non-contact force?
Magnetic force is a force experienced by certain objects in a magnetic field
