Association
ideas and experiences are linked together
Classical Conditioning
we learn to associate 2 stimuli, as result we anticipate events
Unconditional Stimulus (UCS)
stimulus that naturally triggers a response
Unconditioned Response (UR)
unlearned/natural reflex brought on by unconditioned stimulus
Neutral Stimulus
stimulus that leads to no response
Conditioned Stimulus
neutral stimulus that becomes conditioned stimulus after being associated with the unconditioned stimulus
Conditioned Reponse
learned response to conditioned stimulus
acquisition
phase where neutral stimulus is associated with the unconditioned stimulus, neutral stimulus draws out the conditioned response
Extinction
diminishing of a conditioned response
Spontaneous Recovery
reappearance of the CR after extinction
Stimulus Generalization
tendency that once a response bas been conditioned, for similar stimuli to the conditioned stimulus to elicit similar responses
Stimulus Discrimination
learned ability to distinguish conditioned response and other stimuli that don’t cause a response
Higher order conditioning
conditioned stimulus in one experience is paired with a new conditioned stimulus
