what are polysaccharides
they are polymers made up of monomers, monosaccharides, that are linked together by glycosidic bonds formed by a series of condensation reactions
smallest polysaccharide
only made up of three monosaccharides
average polysaccharides
usual polysaccharides are made up of thousands of monomers
this gives them a large size, making them insoluble
they either have structural or storage functions
why is glucose converted into polysaccharides
glucose is the main source of energy in cells
however its soluble in water and would affect osmosis
therefore converted into starch or glycogen
