What is a cell membrane?
Controls the movement of substances into and out of the cell
What is a cell wall?
Contains cellulose, provides structure & protection (plant cell only)
What is mitochondria?
Site of respiration and provides energy
What is a cytoplasm?
Jelly like material containing dissolved nutrients, salts and structure called organelles. Controls reaction of the cell
What is a chloroplast?
Site of photosynthesis & chlorophyll making the plant green (plant cells only)
What is a ribsome?
Site of protein synthesis
What is a nucleus?
Contains genetic material (DNA) and controls cell activity
What is the vacuole?
Filled with cell sap, waste products end up here
What are cells?
The building blocks of all living organisms
What are specialised cells?
Cells that have adapted to perform a particular task. Cells become specialised during differentiation
What is diffrentiation?
When an unspecialised cell becomes a more specialised cell type. When a cell differentiates it develops a structure and internal features which enable it to carry out its function
