Attachment
The emotional bond between a human infant and its parent figure/caregiver.
Temperament
A person's nature, especially as it permanently affects their behavior.
Secure Attachment Style
Distressed when parent leaves, easily comforted when they return.
Avoidant Attachment Style
Child is distressed when parent leaves and ignores or avoids the parent when they return.
Anxious-Resistant Attachment Style
Child is distressed when parent leaves, seeks support from the parent for leaving when the parent returns by displaying overt feelings of anger.
Disorganized Attachment Style
Child doesn't have a predictable pattern of attachment; child displays sign of depression and disturbing behavior.
Schema
Generalizations based on experience.
Assimilation
The process of fitting new information into existing schemas.
Accommodation
The process of modifying schemas when unfamiliar schemas do not work.
Sensorimotor Stage
Stage of cognitive development from birth to 2 years where infants explore through senses and develop object permanence.
Preoperational Stage
Stage of cognitive development from 2 to 7 years where children engage in pretend play, exhibit animism, and begin to understand basic math.
Concrete Operational Stage
Stage of cognitive development from 7 to 12 years where children develop logical thought and understand conservation.
Formal Operational Stage
Stage of cognitive development from 12 years to adulthood where individuals develop abstract logic, hypothetical reasoning, and deductive thinking.
Preconventional Morality
Initial stage of moral development focused on reward and punishment orientation.
Conventional Morality
Stage of moral development focused on good boy/good girl and authority orientation.
Postconventional Morality
Stage of moral development focused on social contract orientation and individual principles/conscience orientation.
