Eschatology
The branch of theology that focuses on the 'last things' that take place, beginning with our bodily death.
Particular Judgment
The individual judgment that takes place immediately upon the final separation of our soul from our earthly body.
Last Judgment
Also known as General judgment or Final judgment; it occurs at the end of the world when everyone will appear before God.
Purgatory
The condition after death where a person is purified from unforgiven venial sins and made perfectly clean for heaven.
Indulgence
A remission before God for the temporal punishment of sins, which can be obtained under certain conditions.
Plenary Indulgence
A type of indulgence that requires complete detachment from all sin and fulfillment of specific conditions.
Hell
A state of eternal punishment for the damned, which is a reality supported by scripture and tradition.
Heaven
The ultimate end and fulfillment of human longings; a state of supreme, definitive happiness.
