leaf 1
has a large surface area which increases surface area for diffusion of CO2 and absorption of light for photosynthesis
leaf 2
thin so the CO2 can quickly diffuse through palisade mesophyll cells
chlorophyll
absorbs light so that photosynthesis can take place
stomata
allows carbon dioxide to diffuse into the lead and oxygen to diffuse out
epidermis
the epidermis is thin and transparent which allows more light to reach the palisade cells
waxy cuticle
the waxy cuticle is transparent so light can reach the leaf, it prevents water loss and acts as a physical barrier to fungal infection
palisade mesophyll
the palisade mesophyll layer is at the top of the leaf so light will hit chloroplasts in the cell directly
spongy mesophyll layer
air spaces allow carbon dioxide to diffuse through the leaf, increasing the surface area
