Where are the adrenal glands and what hormone does it produce
Located above the kidney and releases adrenaline during time of fear or stress into the blood
What are the effects of adrenaline?
Increases your heart rate and boosts the delivery of oxygen and glucose to the brain and muscles. Both are needed for aerobic respiration, preparing the body for ‘fight or flight’
Where is the Thyroid gland located and what’s its function
-Found at the base of the neck and it releases the hormone thyroxine
-Thyroxine has two main effects:
1)Stimulates the body’s basal metabolic rate so makes the body’s chemical reactions take place faster
2)Plays important role in growth and development
Thyroxine is released in response to
Thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH) which is released from the pituitary gland.
Explain the negative feedback of thyroxine
1)Level of thyroxine in blood is monitored by the brain so when it falls the pituitary gland releases TSH into the bloodstream
2)TSH triggers the thyroid gland to release more thyroxine into the blood.
3)The increase level of thyroxine is detected by brain which prevents the pituitary gland from releasing TSH
4)As TSH falls the thyroid gland releases less thyroxine
