store and nourish maturing sperm for 20 days

smooth muscle contract expelling sperm to ductus deferenes when ejaculated

unejaculated sperm phagocytized and reabsorbed

Ductus deferens

from epididymis to spermatic cord and inguinal canal into pelvic caviety

loops partly over bladder and converges to form ejaculatory duct

during ejaculation, smooth muscle creates peristaltic contractions propelling sperm forward & through ejaculatory duct

ejaculatory duct

enters prostate and empties into urethra

Urethra

Terminal portion of male duct

serves urinary and reproductive system

has three regions

Prostatic urethra

pass through prostate

Membranous Urethra

Exits pelvic caviety through urogenital diaphragm

spongy urethra

passes through penis and leads to external urethral office

Accessory glands

produce bulk of seminal fluids (semen) that carries sperm

seminal glands

paired glands on posterior bladder surface

Contracts during ejaculation releasing alakine fluid containing fructose, enzymes, and prostaglandins that function to enhance sperm mobility

Join the ductus deferens from both sides of the body to form the ejacultory duct
