Organ
Organized groups of tissues that work together to perform specific functions essential for plant survival and reproduction
Roots
Anchors plant to ground, absorbs water/minerals, produces hormones
Radicle
1st part of plant to emerge from the seed growing to form root system
Root Hairs
Projections from root, increases absorption
Primary (Tap) Root
Central root of a plant that develops directly from the radicle, growing straight downward into the soil
Lateral Root
Horizontal branches growing from primary taproot, crucial for increasing surface area to absorb water and nutrients
Shoot
Contains vascular tissue, transports water + minerals
Stem
Main structural axis of a plant's shoot system, typically growing above ground to support leaves, flowers, and fruits (nodes/internodes)
Nodes
Small, raised, or knob-like joints on a plant stem where leaves, branches, or aerial roots attach and grow
Internodes
The section of a plant stem situated between two consecutive nodes
Stolons
Horizontal stems that grow above the soil surface, acting as a method of asexual reproduction for plants
Leaves
Photosynthesize
Blade
The broad, flat, and green portion of a plant leaf
Petiole
Slender, stalk-like structure that connects a plant's leaf blade to the stem at a node (nutrient transportation)
Axillary Bud
Embryonic shoot located in the axil which acts as a growth point for new branches or flowers
Terminal Bud
Primary growing point located at the very tip (apex) of a plant stem or branch, rather than on a leaf itself
Tendrils
Leaves that attach to objects
Bulbs
Leaves that store food
Monocot
1 cotyledon, petals in multiples of 3, parallel veins, scattered xylem/phloem, fibrous roots
Dicot (Eudicot)
2 cotyledons, petals in multiples of 4/5, net veins, vascular bundles organized in ring, taproot
