What does newtons first law state?

That a non-zero resultant force is needed to make something start moving, speed up or slow down (so too change the velocity of an object)

2
New cards

So if the resultant force acting on an object is zero?

then if the object is stationary, the object remains stationary

If the object is moving, the object continues to move at the same speed and in the same direction (so the object contains to make at the same velocity)

3
New cards

so when a vehicle is travelling at a steady speed …?

the resistive forces balance the driving force

4
New cards

What is inertia?

The tendency of an object to continue in their state of uniform motion or rest

Tendency to stay in the same state off motion
