Collector
A trained person who instructs and assists employees at a collection site, receives and inspects the urine specimen, and completes the Federal Drug Testing Custody and Control Form (CCF).
Urine Specimen Collection Site
A place selected by the employer where employees provide a urine specimen for a DOT-required drug test.
Federal Drug Testing Custody and Control Form (CCF)
A five-part carbonless manifold form used to document every urine collection required by the DOT drug testing program.
Shy Bladder
A situation when the employee does not provide a sufficient amount of urine (45 mL) for a DOT-required drug test.
Monitored Collection
A collection procedure utilizing a multi-stall restroom under conditions less than completely private.
Directly Observed Collection
A procedure where an observer of the same gender directly watches the employee urinate into the collection container.
Adulteration
The act of tampering with or altering a urine specimen to affect the testing results.
Split Specimen Collection
A drug testing procedure where two specimens are collected to allow for separate testing.
Chain of Custody
A process that ensures the integrity of specimens collected by tracking their possession during testing.
Designated Employee Representative (DER)
An individual identified by the employer to receive and coordinate communications regarding drug and alcohol testing.
