Anatomy
The study of the structure and naming of the body parts.
Physiology
The study of the functions and processes of the body parts.
Anatomical Position
A standard position of the body used as a reference point; standing upright, feet slightly apart, arms at the sides, palms facing forward.
Superior
A directional term meaning 'toward the head' or 'above'.
Inferior
A directional term meaning 'toward the feet' or 'below'.
Anterior
A directional term meaning 'the front' of the body.
Posterior
A directional term meaning 'the back' of the body.
Medial
A directional term meaning 'toward the midline' of the body.
Lateral
A directional term meaning 'away from the midline' of the body.
