Culture Shock
The feeling of confusion, discomfort, or disorientation experienced when exposed to a new culture.
Honeymoon Stage
The initial phase of culture shock where everything feels new and exciting.
Frustration Stage
A phase where differences in culture become frustrating or overwhelming.
Adjustment Stage
The stage where individuals begin to adapt and understand the new culture.
Adaptation Stage
The final stage where individuals feel more comfortable and may embrace the new culture.
Tipping
The act of giving a gratuity, which is expected in the U.S. but can be considered insulting in Japan and South Korea.
Left Hand Usage
In some Middle Eastern countries, using the left hand for eating or greeting is considered impolite.
Eye Contact
In the U.S., eye contact is seen as confident and respectful, but in some Asian cultures it can be viewed as confrontational.
