Aphasia
A general term for deficits in language ability, often due to brain damage.
Broca's area
A region in the left hemisphere of the brain associated with speech production.
Broca's aphasia
A type of aphasia characterized by difficulties in speech production while comprehension remains relatively intact.
Wernicke's area
A region in the brain that is responsible for language comprehension.
Wernicke's aphasia
A type of aphasia where individuals can produce speech but have poor comprehension and produce nonsensical sentences.
Conduction aphasia
A type of aphasia resulting from damage to the connection between Broca's and Wernicke's areas, leading to difficulty in repeating phrases.
Language comprehension
The ability to understand spoken or written language.
Speech production
The cognitive process of forming and expressing thoughts through spoken or written language.
Syntax
The arrangement of words and phrases to create well-formed sentences in a language.
