Stability
Structures should be stable, and they should not collapse when used.
Base size
A stable structure must have a solid base that will stop it from collapsing. In the picture of the cell-phone tower, the base has been made wider by the supporting struts. A wider base usually helps to hold the weight of the whole structure.
Centre of gravity
Gravity pulls everything towards the Earth. The cellphone tower will not fall over because the different members balance the tension and compression forces.
