What does WHMIS mean?
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System
John Dalton's Atomic Theory
1)All matter is made up of small, indivisible particles called atoms2)Atoms of the same element are identical in size and mass, 3)Atoms of different elements have different properties4)Different elements can combine to form new substances in specific fixed ratios. Ex: hydrogen 1, oxygen 2, H2O
JJ Thomson
discovered the electron, with the beam, plum pudding model1) All atoms are made of smaller substomatic particles, in different combinations to make different elements2) An atom was a sphere of positive charge, which electrons where embedded in to
Ernest Rutherford
discovered the nucleus using the gold foil experiment1) An atom is mostly empty space2) An atom contains a positivly charged core called the nucleu3) The nucleus contains the protons and neutrons4) Electrons move throught the rest of the atoms volume
Ernest Rutherford's Experiment
In his gold foil experiment, he released positively charged particles that he aimed at a thin sheet of gold foil. He thought that the particles would pass through the gold foil, but some of them bounced back, hitting the nucleus.
Neils Bohr
Electrons surrounded the nucleus, 1) The nucleus of an atom is composed of nucleons-protons and neutrons2) Electrons orbit the nucleus at specific energy levels, called orbitals. 3) 1st energy level holds up to 2 electrons, 2nd and 3rd holds up to 8.
Exploding Bomb Pictogram
Explosion or reactivity hazards. -keep away from heat and ignition sources.
Flame over circle pictogram
For oxidizing hazards. -keep away from heat and sources of ignition-use in weel-ventilated area
