Pectoralis minor
Origin: Ribs 3-5; Insertion: Coracoid process of the scapula; Nerve Supply: Medial Pectoral Nerve; Nerve Root: C6, 7, 8; Action: Depresses scapula; If the scapula is fixed it elevates the ribs of origin; Downwardly rotates scapula.
External Intercostals
Origin: Inferior border of ribs; Insertion: Superior border of ribs; Action: Elevates rib cage.
Internal intercostals
Origin: Superior border of ribs; Insertion: Inferior border of ribs; Action: Depresses rib cage.
Serratus anterior
Origin: Ribs 1-8; Insertion: Medial Border and Inferior Angle of scapula; Nerve Supply: Long Thoracic Nerve; Action: Draws scapula forward around the thoracic wall; Rotates scapula.
External oblique
Origin: Ribs 5-12; Insertion: Linea alba, Pubic crest, Pubic tubercle, Iliac crest; Action: Flexes vertebral column; Compresses abdominal wall.
Internal oblique
Origin: Lumbar fascia, Iliac crest, Inguinal ligament; Insertion: Linea alba, Pubic crest; Action: Flexes vertebral column; Compresses abdominal wall.
Rectus abdominis
Origin: Pubic crest, Pubic symphysis; Insertion: Xiphoid process, Ribs 5-7; Action: Flexes lumbar region of vertebral column; Rotates lumbar region of vertebral column.
