Doesn’t like producing music he doesn’t believe in (eventually ruins his credibility in the music industry, refuses to start behind the soulless and overproduced pop groups in the industry that companies want him to produce)

Internally struggles with his hispanic identity and feels like an outsider

Worries about aging (like Sasha) and suffers from sexual impotence that stems from shame around his failures

By the end he reclaims his status and finds self-acceptance

Rob has depression, is possibly gay and feels disconnected from himself and others (expressed through 2nd person narration)

He knows Sasha’s secrets, and after revealing them to Drew in hopes he might hate her, he drowns in the East River (he does so by following Drew: the friend who decided to swim after he heard Sasha’s secrets, storming off, furious with Rob)

Sashas uncle. Ted is a frustrated art scholar who goes to Naples to try to locate Sasha (sasha’s father funds the trip) and spends time viewing art rather then looking for Sasha. He used to be the man Sasha resonated the most with in her family. The trip to Sasha was a chance to get away from his family (who he feels don’t understand him).
